As you probably guessed, London and Paris are both in central Kentucky, so this isn't the international event that it appears to be. But it's still good for bragging rights. Be sure to get the T-shirt or sweat shirt. It's a great conversation starter. The London to Paris Air Tour was a popular annual event from 1994 to 1999, but we hadn't had one in a few years. Some of the area pilots reorganized the London to Paris Air Tour as an annual event starting in 2005. This isn't a race and it isn't an EAA event. The London To Paris Air Tour is a fun fly to promote general aviation and the local airports, with food, socializing, and hangar stories at each stop. It's just a bunch of pilots flying around and enjoying the sights. Food! Free food will be provided throughout the day. Currently, the menu includes a nice continental breakfast at London, a delicious fruit and veggie tray at Mount Sterling, a great lunch at Georgetown including barbecue, baked beans, chips and drinks, and apple pie and ice cream for dessert at Danville. Flying! There are few requirements. You shouldn't need anything beyond what you normally need to fly. All pilots are responsible for abiding by all applicable FARs. To make this a safe event, anyone without adequate formation flying experience should not attempt to fly in close formation. Cash! There is a $20 entry fee for every plane again this year, and all aircraft completing all five tour airport stops are eligible for a cash prize drawing! 100% of all the entry fee money will be distributed as cash prizes. The distribution will be: 50% - First Prize 30% - Second Prize 20% - Third Prize If only 20 planes participate, first prize would be $200, second prize would be $120 and third prize would be $80. We plan on a lot more than 20 planes, so the prizes should be much better! Cash prizes may be rounded to the nearest $10 increment, and the prize structure may be altered prior to the event, perhaps to add prizes for a fourth and/or fifth place. The 2006 London To Paris Air Tour was a very fun day of flying. We had lots of aviation camaraderie, and everyone was anxious to participate again in 2007. Commemorative shirts will be available the day of the event. They feature a beautiful full size four color London To Paris Air Tour logo. Short sleeve T-shirts are $15 and long sleeve sweat shirts are $20. All five air tour airports are in central Kentucky, and all have 100LL and Jet-A fuel. The entire London To Paris Air Tour route is on the Cincinnati sectional. The schedule is a bit loose, depending on the weather. We'll leave London no earlier than 10:00 AM. It's often fogged in during the early morning during the summer, and the later start will give people traveling a farther distance an oppourtunity to participate without an "O dark thirty departure". Thanks To The Local Airport Boards and FBOs
On behalf of the pilots and passengers who flew in the 2006 London To Paris Air Tour, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of general aviation, both last year, and again this year. Your support in hospitality and the food you provide this group will never be forgotten. At the close of this event, all expressed the fun they had and the interest to make this truly an annual tour again. Sincerely, Ken Jordan Organizer of the Jelly Bean Air Force |
